The Summer Salad Hit List
five crowd favorite salads that travel well + the best summer serving bowl.
Summer is almost here, and that means backyard hangs and BBQs are officially back! If you’re always wondering what dish to bring, these five summer salads are guaranteed crowd-pleasers—fresh, make-ahead friendly and they travel well.
But first, I am sharing the holy grail of serving bowls. This bowl is the #1 used serving dish in my house during the summer months. It comes with a lid and nested utensils, so it is perfect to travel with or make something ahead in and throw in the fridge. It also makes for an awesome hostess gift under $25.

Kale Caesar Pasta Salad - this is probably the summer recipe I make the most, I cannot get enough of it and it is so simple, only 5 ingredients! The roasted bursting cherry tomatoes are my favorite part and it makes for such an easy contribution to a summer potluck. Note: I do not use as much dressing as it calls for, so add a little at first and keep testing to your preference.
Marinated Vegetable Salad - this colorful raw veggie salad is one that compliments any summer cookout so well and you can edit the recipe with whatever veggies you have on hand in the fridge! When you are craving something healthy, but really love a crunch, this is the best. Note: the recipe calls for 1 tbsp of olive oil, but I use about 3 tbsp, I don’t think it calls for enough.
Fiesta Corn and Avocado Salad - corn is essential in a true summer salad and the flavors of this recipe are insane. This recipe takes a little more prep, but I promise it will be the star of the show. If you want it to travel better, cut the avocado right before serving so it is fresh and doesn’t brown.
Lemon Garlic Kale Salad - this simple 4 ingredient salad is crack. Mix kale, tons of almonds and parmesan with a delicious and simple lemon dressing. It doesn’t get soggy, so it is the perfect healthy salad to make in a big batch and enjoy for days. It also goes well with any protein!
Fancy Fruit Salad (for the kids) - this is my go to combination of fruit that looks chic and is nostalgic to me because my Mom would always make it when hosting. Not only does it look fancy, the combination is truly delicious and sure to be devoured by the kids. Mix blueberries, halved green grapes and strawberries in a bowl. Top with raspberries, blackberries and sliced kiwi.
If you are hosting or looking for cute dining essentials the entire Hearth + Hand by Magnolia collection from Target is not only chic but budget friendly! I rounded up some of my favorites for summer below.
